Every portrait begins with a person.
It’s all about looking closely enough to see someone. The drawing is what remains of that moment.
Charcoal and chalk on paper, unframed. The model Rich has been posing for a few years, and often I'll see a painting or drawing of him at exhibitions in London. This was a 15 minute pose from a session run by Androtechne Collective.
Mixed media on wood. This painting is one of a selection of works that can be inverted to reveal a different image. Hung this way, the figure is a dancer pausing for a quiet moment. When inverted, it becomes the Hanged Man from the tarot deck. A rotating hanging mechanism is included but the painting can be mounted without.
This 25 minute unframed sketch was created during a session run by The Flaw Drawing Society, featuring model Natty using pencil on tracing paper. I first met Natty while he was on the other side of the easel, he is an artist as well as a model.
